My grandfather, Adolph Samenfeld is in the center of this photo. His father, Carl Samenfeld, is to his right. The man to the left of Adolph is his brother Moritz Samenfeld who was deported, with his son Arthur and his second wife. Henriette. to the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942 where they died. Arthur's brother, Ewald, emigrated to Argentina.
Carl Simon Samenfeld was taken to prison on Kristallnacht (the night of Nov 9 & 10, 1938) and died there a few weeks later.
From "Nazi Crimes against Jews and German Post-War Justice" by Edith Raim: "In Diepholz the 86 year old Jewish butcher Carl Samenfeld, who at the time was bedridden, was torn out of his bed and lodgings and pulled on a hand cart to the local courthouse. He was only wearing a nightcap, a shirt and underpants."
[Carl Simon Seedfeld , * 11.8.1852 Diepholz, taken to prison in the courtyard of the Schloßhof in Nov. 38, resided in May 1939. In Diepholz Hinterstraße 6 [XXII. Federal Archives of Berlin], + 11.1.1939 in Diepholz (Diepholzerliste 1947).]
Adolph Samenfeld was exposed to the nerve gas that was used during the Great War. He was in fact, a member of "Konigliches Kommando des Oldenburg Infanterie Regiments Nr. 91"
This is the house in Lavelsloh, Germany where my father's family lived, and also where they had their cattle/livestock business, and also did their butchering. This picture was taken in 1894 when my grandmother, Dina Heynemann, was 16. This is actually the Heynemann family home. Oma Dina is standing in the foreground fourth from the left and her sister Johanna is next to her.. Her father, Isaak Heynemann, is holding the horse. When Oma married Adolph Samenfeld this is where they lived. My father, Erich, and my Aunt Irma were born here.
My father, Uncle Louis Heynemann, Aunt Martha, Adolph Samenfeld, Oma Dina, and Tante Irma.
Uncle Louis, Aunt Martha, Tante Irma, Adolph Samenfeld, Oma Dina, and my father holding their dog, Lady.
Tante Irma is standing second from the left. My father Erich is standing on the far right. The man wearing the hat is Max Rhein, he was the teacher at the Jewish school in Rahden.
